What do you think makes a good performance?

Apparently I haven't updated my journal for a while. Seems about accurate. Still, I don't see much of a reason to complain about having a clever quote about pins and life saving up on my profile for 17 months. At least I've been uploading things and leaving the occasional comment?

Instead of going over every event that happened to me since my last entry, I'll just outline three big points.

1. I made the National Ultimate Team... and then tore my ACL the day after, and as a result, ended up not going the the international competition. Nonetheless, Team Canada is doing great, currently with a 4-0 winning streak. You can follow them on Twitter here if you want: twitter.com/TCJrOpen

2. I played Pokemon White. After spending over a year complaining about new Pokemon, I realized that it was all probably a jealous rage because I didn't want to pay for the games. A friend lent it to me, and I admit that aside from the first two Generations having their "classic" license, it was the funnest Pokemon game I've played. And not just the plot, lots of the Pokemon are great too. And they even named them so you could make jokes.

"What Pokemon did you choose?"
"Oshawott."
"Osha what?"
Oshawott!"
"Osha what?!"


3. I graduated. But that's not the cool part. The cool part is that as of about three weeks, my student career at Emily Carr University of Art and Design begins. I've got to learn a lot of stuff by then, especially increasing my ability to recreate perspective onto a medium, and my familiarity with colours, as those have traditionally been outside of my comfort zone. One of my friend's mums has a bunch of watercolour paints that she's been meaning to give me since 2010. I should go pick those up. The bad news is that I have a surgery interview on the first day of school. Still, I'm thankful that I don't have to wait 24 months for it.


Also, on a side note (but not really because this is what the update was actually supposed to be about) I've started a webcomic that I'm hoping will be a consistent factor of my life on a weekly basis. It's called "Princent's Castle". It was an idea I came up with in grade 9 when I was suffering from an absence of classes with one of my closest friends, Vincent. He was a lot more lethargic then and equally as stubborn as he is now, so I decided that it would be funny if he actually had power, so I told him I'd make a comic about him as a prince and our group of friends as his subjects. Thus, Princent was born and I went XDD (Xzyattion Deficit Disorder since I haven't actually been diagnosed with ADD as far as I know) on it for about 4 years. Now that I've taken less than sixth months for an update, and apparently it makes my friends happy that I do it--not to mention that I enjoy drawing it--I'm hoping to keep producing it. I'm aiming for weekly updates, but school will be a priority.

What's coming in Princent's Castle for the next week? Probably no update with actual plot. Why? Because I need to get down consistent character designs before I get to chapter 50 and Bob's hair is still changing in every panel. Also, did I mention my inexperience with backgrounds? I've got to figure out how to draw the castle and the kingdom. I will probably be posting concept sketches and stuff along with possibly daily short black and white comics for character development. Hopefully it's for the better.

Dictionary.com is a wonderful place that I often visit multiple times in a day but, as everything, it has flaws. If you managed to ask the earth's nearly 7 billion people to define the word 'door', how many do you think would say,
"a movable, usually solid, barrier for opening and closing an entranceway, cupboard, cabinet, or the like, commonly turning on hinges or sliding in grooves"?

Personally, I don't think that many would. Some might give the same message but with less specific wording. Another slightly more impish or simply lazy fellow might point over his right should and say, "That thing over there."

My point in all this is that people define things differently. Even if they say the same thing, they will likely say it with much contrast to another. Some might say something that directly contradicts another's definition. I find the different ways that people phrase things interesting so I might as well find more than the well put but also relatively boring ways that dictionary.com puts it.

So,

In your own words or those of other's that your beliefs follow, how do you define ART?

No wait, I think you've heard that one before and then I just sort of didn't do anything again. Instead, let's say I'm Mozart (that's 's pun by the way).

Short story short: Onemanga shut down.
Short story longer: Onemanga shut down so I was looking for something to do. Me and not spending way to much time on the computer didn't make sense (or cents...because it prevents me from getting a job by making me lazy). I went over to Deviantart, realizing that I hadn't been really active since about...a month after I joined maybe? Closer to three years ago.
I decided to start looking through my 975 messages (the most depressing thing is, after you do something with them, the messages still stay until you delete them, so now even though I've looked through some, I have 976). The first stack of deviantions that I looked through was 's. His art, creativity, humour and wit inspired me to actually do something. I decided to become more active (honestly, that shouldn't be too hard) on Deviantart (thanks for that).

I have come up with a few basic steps for my master plan (actually, I'll be making them up as I go along, but it won't look like it when it's done because that's the marvel of modern technology.

1. Upload a bunch of pictures so it looks like I'm as lazy as I really am. I think I'll do that tomorrow morning, before I leave for Ultimate Nationals where I probably won't have access to a scanner for a few days...

2. Look through my Deviant Watch messages and actually do something about them. Basically, even when I was more active, all I really did was upload some pictures and then sit there and wait for comments. Suspiciously, the most I usually did when it came to interacting with other Deviants is glance at some of their pictures once in a while. What a great attitude I had, expecting people to comment and fave my drawings while I pretty much ignored theirs. Well now I'm a bit more respectful and also more in love with art in general so I'm going to try to not be a complete Kanda and appreciate other's hard work.

3. Figure out what happened to DA. I was close to inactive for a few years. This is the internet. Enough said?
If anyone wants to tell me about DA or give me advice on anything, that would be great.

Oh yeah, and then there's the entire update things more frequently. I'm great at that.
(in the previous sentence, when I say great, I mean horrible)

Um, so, I'm looking forward to coming back and being a decent deviant, or something?

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering what I've been doing in the last ever, and I have been starting, working on, and ditching projects. We are currently working on one called Artificial, that will hopefully be completed this time. 31 page oneshot+title page. Not really that great, but better than nothing. Completed: Draft, pencil lineart for 11 pages. To be finished by: September 4th 2010. Hopefully.
I'll try to post some of the art on soon-ish. By the way, if any of you would like to give that account a watch, that would be fantastical. Collaboration power makes the world happy. Probably. I haven't really asked it.
